Chimera Project Mock II

This is the Chimera Project, Redone. The point of this project was much like Chimera Project One, to draw a Chimera you felt represented yourself. Some people, like Eskara (Azonthus) and LeafMucher, felt like doing more than one.

Snipe has done Remix's of all the projects shown here!

OVIRA/VORCHIA

One chain around my ankle tying me to the ground, which becomes the chain or does the chain become the ground?
Four fragile translucent wings taken from a dragonfly. A futile wish for freedom.
A shattered mirror, mostly black, full of dreams
The head of an owl, ever craving for knowledge
Claws that blind and scare the paranoid
One hand holding the science-book the other a black rose
Pointed ears like a Vulcan or an Elf?
Long pointy iguana scales running down a spotted back and tail
A red shawl around my wrist, flowing freely in the wind, that one’s easy
A glass of wine and a a pile of art supplies never to be used again
Standing proudly but not balanced, never whole
The path goes on endlessly into darkness, the candle’s burning up
A glass wall that can’t be broken, or is it the mirror?
What's the ugly thing in the mirror?
Gliding shapes in the distance, forever out of reach
A mask of strength that isn’t there
See the snake that climbs a branch on my arm?

PETRIE

On top of a cliff, there was a nest. It’s structure told it to be a pterosaur nest. The egg inside of it was unusually large. The parents were nowhere to be found; perhaps they are searching for food in the canyons. Whatever the reason, they were not present at the time of the hatching.

The orange egg started to squeak, tumble, and crack as the fully developed embryo was pushing it’s way through into life. The beak poked through the shell—nothing unusual. As the creature let out a squawk one could see dozens of razor sharp pointed teeth like those of dromeosaurs. A pterosaur with teeth? Maybe it wasn’t a pterosaur at all.

Then the head emerged. The eyes were huge—no doubt this creature could see very well like troodonts. It was a crested pterosaur—though the crest was pointed forward resembling the twisted limbs of ancient trees in movies and a unicorn’s symbolic horn.

When the wings popped out instead of leathery they were feathery. Colorful feathers—hues of red, green, orange, blue, and purple. At least the creature wouldn’t be cold should the temperature drop. It’s breast and chest also bore the colorful feathers of a dimorphodon.

The legs are powerful and strong but furry, much shaped the way a lion’s would appear. It would surely never miss a takeoff. Lastly, the tail appeared. Pterosaurs don’t really have tails so it was a surprise to see one. The tail was deformed and furry too. It appeared to have been snatched from a wolf or a fox.

As I conclude, the casual onlooker would most likely say, “What the hell is this that I see?” With a grin and a nod I would reply quickly, “A genetically altered version of me.”

PAROU

Well, where to start……. Hmmmm…….. Start with what I’m on at the moment…… my butt.

Tail is a wolf’s, grey and very bushy – I just like wolves.

Back Legs are a draught horse’s with grey wolf fur. Draught horse as they were strong quiet and hard workers at whatever was at hand, gray fur to go with tail and reflects again my wolf interest and my ‘grey’ conservative morals.

Hind quarters are equine with tiger stripes – Tigers are great... grace, agility, speed all that I wish I was. BTW my footy team (Aussie Rules) is the Richmond Tigers as well.

Torso is a Pegasus but upward slanting like a giraffe with zebra stripes and coloring blending to the tiger stripes and coloring at hind. The wing feathers are a wedge tail eagle’s pattern and color. – Zebra… horse of the Savanna, my home was flat, semi arid wheat-lands... so close enough to others all zebras are the same so they all seem average looking, but in reality every pattern is unique like a fingerprint…. I look very average but I know I am unique (the world could not hack two of me!). Equine – solid body of a draught horse, but an upward slant like giraffe… you’ll see why later. Pegasus wings, being a horse fan the idea of a flying one was really cool, but as I am not a ‘flamboyant’ person, my wings are almost always folded and I don’t really fly anywhere. Wedge tail colors because I admire ‘wedgies’ as they are known.... great birds to watch in flight.

Front legs – Giraffe like, longer than back legs, hooves are replaced by three splayed hard surfaced digits with a thumb like backward facing heel, the whole ‘paw/hand/hoof’ can act to lift objects up to neck height. Coloring is the zebra stripes.

Base of neck – two human like arms covered with pelt of giraffe coloring with hands. Could not forego my human hands as I really enjoy working with my hands as well as my mind, whether mechanical or electronic or manual labor. Now you’ll see why the front legs were a bit odd!

Neck – a giraffe neck with normal giraffe coloring with longer hair, mane is long and grey colored - At 190cm or so I’m not exactly short and (long story coming here…) When I first went to school they gave us animal groups and ours was Giraffe. At 18 I did a 16 week youth outreach and support course called ‘Giraffe’ (sticking your neck out for others). Since then I have also helped sponsor the Rothschild Giraffes at Melbourne Zoo (just had a new calf, second Rothschild calf to be born in Melb Zoo, father Makulu was the first ever to be born in Australia, he’s 7 y.o. now). Grey mane color still wolf/conservative.

Head – Is a Unicorn’s head with Powerful Owl eyes and eye surround feathers, metallic silver unicorn horn, medium size backward tilted Addax horns between ears in place of the small giraffe type stub horns and a green bulla. Unicorn is there for many reasons, mainly personality, morals and attitude… the things of the mind. Powerful Owl eyes for my studious and serious manner…. they are tall owls, have large feet, are generally shy and are local…. ‘nuff said. Addax horns…. Well…. addax are rare (only 100 or so in wild) and the horns are twisted like my mind and sense of humor at times so this seemed a good change from the Giraffe nub horns. Like the addax at Werribee Open Range Zoo I am rare and out of place where I live. Green bulla is the only piece that follows to the chimera .... I'll say it's there to give the chimera speech!!

CROCO

- The head is that of a crocodile with the headgear (horns, frill) of a Triceratops. Color is that of a crocodile.

- The body is half leopard spot (torso), half tiger stripe (hindquarters) and scaly like a lizard.

- The front arms would be like a human's, only with scales and dark pink, almost red in color. The hands will have three fingers and a thumb with claws on the tips.

- My chimera would have the ability to fly, so his wings will be that of a Quetzalcoatlus...red at the top streaking down a little bit with green and navy blue spots in between the red areas.

- The legs would be those of a Utahraptor...claws and all! Dark red with gold swirls going down toward the feet.

- Finally...the tail. After much consideration, I decided on a dark navy blue dragon tail with a gold underside.
