Island Halloween Poem

    by Snipe

The Island wears a pumpkin grin
tis Halloween
so let's begin
all gather round
and settle in-
a haunting we will go

The hatchlings and the children know
that treats reward a fearsome show
as the sun hides down
and the dead leaves blow
hung lanterns sway and glow

The monsters go from door to door
greeting each with a mighty roar
upheld gourds collect the score-
candy or small toys

The Island
knows a thing or two
about the fine art of making BOO
and playing pranks at scaring you
is what it will most gleeful do

And while the towns and cities play
at fun scared up the Halloween way-
In the Rainy Basin
not so very far away
a different event unfolds

Within a stone circle cut deep by time's scars
lay the hidden
and the fabled
Carnosaur's Graveyard

On All Hallows Eve the carnosaur clans
put aside their differences
together to band
and honor their dead
on this sacred land

Torches are lit
and offerings laid out-
basins of blood
and fresh river trout

Stories are shared
of those that have passed-
told from oldest to youngest
these memories to last

Incense is burned
crawling up to the moon
the remembrance and love
warms the bones in the tomb

From the fun and the frightful
to the honoring of the dead
there is more to Halloween
then is commonly said

The Island sleeps sound
wrapped up like a bat
purring content
like some big black cat.

Happy Halloween everyone.
