Winter Poem,

    by Snipe

From its cave
high atop The Forbidden Mountain
Winter spreads icicle wings
draws its first breath
of the season
and drops upon The Island

The Saurian below
all pause from their activities
sensing the change-
the Humans unaware

Winter glides
down the mountain face
gathering bitter strength
hungry eyes target
the lush green below

Signal horns sound out
a storm warning
as the Islanders hurry home
to nest and roost

Winter screams
off the mountain plain
into streets
hunting for warmth to snuff

Desolation only
as chimneys lift smoke up and away
all safe and warm
within

Winter peers in
frosting the windows
entranced

It soars
high above
our Island home
and opens its arms
to blanket what it can
in snow

Winter then retreats
back to its crag
to dream about what it saw
through our windows.
